The Cure

I wish The Cure (an episode from Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes) had aired in the US. I enjoyed that episode a lot, when I watched it on youtube. Thankfully, the boxset has all the episodes ever made for the show, including the multiple ones which aired outside the US only.

Throughout most of this animated series, Ben Grimm expresses a want to be cured of his "condition". He sees himself as a monster, though most people don't see him as being one.

In The Cure, Reed Richards finally came up with the perfect idea. Since he had his friends undergo a genetic scan prior to the launch, it's just a simple matter of breaking his best friend down, then rebuilding him using his original DNA. Ben's a little nervous though, and so's Alicia. When she asks if he truly wants to undergo the procedure, Ben states that he wants to be himself again.

(Wait a minute here. If I somehow underwent a bizarre transformation, yet my mind remained untouched, I wouldn't be me? Ben, come on. You're still you, even when some FF fans know you best as The Thing. Honestly...)

I really love Alicia's response.

"No matter what you look like, you'll always be Ben Grimm."

YES!!!! GO AlICIA!!!!

Regardless, Ben still wants his cure. It seems perfect...at first. But then Ben freaks out upon seeing Reed stretch, Johnny being on fire....

He doesn't know Alicia at all. What's going on here?

Heh, the DNA scan was done before the launch, remember? To Ben, the actual flight and the formation of the FF, never happened.

Although She-Hulk steps in as a substitute, it's a powerless Ben Grimm who ends up saving the day. :)

Can you tell this episode's my favorite out of the entire animated series? :D
