Diaryland survey (long entry)
1:42 p.m. on 2004-03-02
When will you do an original entry today, instead of just stealing from other diaries?
I'm not doing stealing! I come across fun stuff to do, and then bring them over here!
You haven't started the survey yet.
Maybe if you hadn't had interupted me...
*waits for another message to show up*
*does more waiting*
Good, my alterego is silent. Now I can start answering questions.
1. What is your name?
Tricia
2. Your age?
I'm in my 20s
3. What is your Dland name?
fan4
4. Why did you choose it?
It's shorthand for Fantastic Four, my fave. superhero team. (Yes, I know the group is a family too.)
5. How long have you been a member?
Since July of some year. 2002 or 2003, I think.
6. How did you find out about Diaryland?
A friend of mine mentioned this site to me in a YJ (Young Justice) message board.
7. Good experiences on Diaryland?
Making new friends, winning a POY award, recieving D-Land notes and guestbook signings, getting some positive reviews, people adding my diary to their fave. lists, me becoming a reviewer...
8. Bad experiences on Diaryland?
My second review, losing my POY membership, people taking my diary off their fave. lists, two of my friends got into a cat fight (not fun at all), people pretending to be something they aren't when talking to me, diary-viewer shutting down, D-Land having problems (preventing me from updating)...
9. What's the best thing about Dland?
The community aspect.
10. Worst thing?
People who aren't gold members can't create D-Land surveys You have to be signed into D-Land in order to leave a note.
11. Have you gotten any friends through Dland?
Yep! Lots of them too.
12. How many Diaryland accounts you have?
One
13. Do you have a story/zine/article diary in addition to your "normal" diary?
No
14. What kind of Diaries do you like to read?
ones with interesting content, aren't tricky to navigate around...
My tastes keep changing. It's really hard to pinpoint what exactly intriques me about one particular diary. (I wonder what intriques people when they come across my diary.) Sometimes a diary will remain on my fave. list for a long time, other times I''ll grow tired of a diary (and I'll take it off my fave. list). Who will stay? Who will go? I don't know. I doubt I'll ever have my list be completely full, because I'm always making changes to it.
15. What kind of Diaries don't you like to read?
I don't like diaries that have been abandoned. If someone has a different sense of humor than me (to the point where I'd find it offensive), I won't like the diary. I won't read a diary for too long if I don't get a feel for the writer when I read the entries.
16. Your favorite Diaries?
Check my fave. diary list.
17. Do you use Diaryland layout defaults, or custom layout?
soverycherry designed my current layout with the rainbow. Before she did this for me, I kept alternating between various D-Land layout. Her sister, randomsnark helps out too, cleaning things up when things get a little muddled, and I asked her to add the amber alert ticker at the bottom. I add the links in myself.
18. If you use a custom-made layout, who made it for you?
See my answer to the previous question.
19. If you made your layout by yourself, or if you got a chance to wish for a layout theme when you requested for one, what influenced you, why did you choose to go with that particular theme or thing?
I'm not sure if this question applies to me or not. I'll pass.
20. Do you use the mail forwarding Diaryland offers for members?
No.
21. What kind of things do you write about in your diary?
Sometimes I'll write personal entries, other times I'll "borrow" stuff (like this survey) from other diaries. I'm known for my blessings lists. Several people have mentioned to me that they like them. Sometimes I'll write about the tv shows I've seen.
22. How often do you update?
Depends on my mood. Sometimes only once a day, maybe multiples other days. I won't update if I don't feel like doing so. I go to D-Land to read other diaries, not just update my own.
23. Do you get comments often?
I do get comments, but I'm not sure what the frequency of recieving them is. Not all my entries will recieve comments. I love it when I do recieve a (positive) comment from somebody!
24. When people comment, do they comment the content or the layout?
I've recieved comments on both of these.
25. When people comment, do they use the Analyzer, Guestbook, e-mail or other commenting thing?
Analyzer? What's this?
Most of my comments (lately, it seems) comes from notes. It's been awhile since my guestbook has been signed. I will recieve e-mails, but not as often as notes or guestbook signings.
26. Do you have a NotifyList?
No
27. Do you have an account from Signmyguestbook.com?
yes
28. Do you have a page at Pitas?
What is Pitas?
29. Do you have a personal website somewhere, in addition to your diary?
No
30. If so -- is your diary (or diaries) linked from it?
N/A
31. Have you met any weirdos during your stay at Dland?
Define "weirdo"
32. What kind of extra stuff do you have on your diary (e.g polls, poems, stories, art...)?
fans, rings, MBs, Michael Bailey Smith's site, my winning POY entry, fanfiction, adoptions, 100 list, 50 list, amber alert ticker...am I forgetting something?
33. Do you like to see extra things on people's diaries, or do you think the written content of the diary itself is more important?
Content is most important. Then the extras.
33. Do you have accounts on other diary hivesites such as LiveJournal etc.?
No. Livejournal requires you to pay money (unless you're invited to have a diary from a member). One of my penpals has a xanga account, but the site bugged me to join too much. Took me awhile to be able to read her blog. I'll stick with D-Land.
34. Have you registered your diary to contests like "top 100 diaries" or such?
I haven't registered to contests. I have however registered my diary at frozenkiss. I used to be a member of POY, but I'm not one anymore.
35. What is more important: writing to your diary or getting hits, comments or becoming well-known on Dland or well-known as a diary writer?
I just want to have fun at this site.
36. Do you know your average hit per day rate at the moment?
No
37. How many people are linking to your diary from their profiles at this moment?
over 40
38. Do you know why they link to you?
Not always. Common interests may be a factor, as are my blessings lists. Some people may link to my diary because I liked to them first. I'm no mind reader though. I don't make people add me, or delete me. I didn't tell meganwaits or cassiopeia- to re-add me. They did so on their own.
39. Are you a Diaryland Gold Member and if you aren't, would you like to be one?
I'm not a gold member. Part of me wishes I were one, 'cause I have some ideas for rings, and I'd like to create a personall poll.
40. If you are a Gmember, why did you sign up for it? And if you aren't but would like to, why?
I don't have a credit card, so can't use the paypall system.
41. Why did you originally sign up for your diary account, has the reason changed during your stay at Dland?
I originally joined so me and my friend (the person who mentioned this place tome) could learn more about each other's lives. I don't have an answer as to why I continue to update.
42. If you can track down referring urls, what is the most common search that generates your site in the results?
N/A
43. Have you ever been quoted or submitted material to quoted?
Here's yet another site I haven't heard of...
Yes, I have been quoted. Sometimes people quote me in their profile. If you buy issue 14 (vol. 3) of Fantastic Four, you'll see my name (and a question I sent in) in Stan Lee's soapbox.
44. Have you ever submitted and/or been published at oddgoogle?
Is this related to google.com?
I haven't submitted anything to oddgoogle.
45. What makes you link to other diaries?
*shrugs*
Didn't I say earlier that it's hard to put into words what I like about other diaries?
46. Diaryland ad banners, good or bad?
Good, when the image has something to do with the diary.
47. Diaryrings for Gmembers only, good or bad?
Diaryrings are for everybody to join, not just Goldmembers. *thinks over this question* If you're talking about the creation of rings however...I wish I could create a diaryring. I have several ideas, some of which have been used, but others haven't been created yet.
48. Diaryrings, good or bad?
good
49. Old Analyzer vs. new Analyzer, good or bad?
Hard to say if something's bad or not, if you don't even know what the something is...
50. Do you wish to evolve as a writer through or using your diary, or do you just write?
I just write.
51. Do you ever plan what to write, or is it all spontaneous?
mixture of both
52. Has writing a diary helped you in any way, or have you had negative results?
I've made friends I wouldn't have known otherwise.
53. Has your diary ever been found by someone you've written about?
Rachel Farris came across my winning POY entry, and e-mailed me about it. She's a singer, and my fave. song by her is "I'm not the girl".
54. Have you ever shown your diary to people you've written about and if so, what did they think?
I've given the URL to some people in my offline life. Most of them liked my diary.
55. Have you written a cast, terms list, or anything similar on your diary for readers to catch the meaning of words and names in your diary?
I did have a cast page at one point, but took it down after awhile.
56. How do you review your own entries -- what kind of entries are good ones, what bad?
Who'd apply scoring techniques to their own diary?
If people like my diary, fine. If they don't, their choice.
57. Have you ever deleted your own entries and if you have, was there a particular reason?
I deleted my rant post concerning my second review. Didn't want to offend my reviewer friends, because in the entry I was complaining about reviewing in general. If I were to do another rant post, I'd have to re-read the review, which I don't want to do. She didn't have to be as harsh as she was!
Sometimes I'll delete entries because I don't think they fit anymore.
If I end up having multiple copies of the same entry (which is a result of me hitting submit more than once, because my internet system is taking forever to switch screens), I'll archive all of the copies, then delete all but one of them (assuming I still want it in the diary).
58. Why did you choose to write a diary online, instead of keeping a locked book under your pillow, so to speak?
I don't like locked books. The keys are too small, and I end up losing them. (I probably will use the diary Shannan gave me, but I'll open and close the lock without that key.) I do keep offline journals. I'm slowly reaching the end of my Footprints journal. (I love this poem!)
There are moments where I want to say something, and I don't feel like using a pen. I'll choose to do typing instead.
59. Do you think there's a big difference between online and offline diaries and if so, what do you think these differences are?
Offline diaries aren't as "public" as an online diary (unless the online diary is locked to everybody except the writer). There are some things I'll feel more comfortable writing about in an offline journal than here in D-Land. This diary can be seen by anybody in cyberspace. Not true for my offline journals.
60. Any final comments, thoughts, words of wisdom or random babble about Dland, other diary hive sites, diary-writing online or in general?
No.
