ragdoll (cats)

I'm slowly catching up with my magazines. Last night, I began reading the August 2003 issue of Cat Fancy magazine. The featured breed is the ragdoll, a cat with blue eyes and points. Ragdolls are ideal with kids, because they go limp when they're held. This breed is one of the most docile cat breeds ever. My mom and I would love to own a Ragdoll, but they're expensive and there isn't a breeder near where I live.

Today I did more reading in the magazine, and reached the section about Ragdolls. I'm almost done reading the section. I liked the poster of 3 Ragdoll kittens, and put in in the wall. It's located near two previous Cat Fancy posters. The Tonkinese (one of the Siamese cousins) poster shows 5 kittens, and the American Shorthair poster has 4 kittens.

I thought my mom would like the Ragdoll poster, since the two of us like the breed, but her reaction wasn't what I expected. Instead of saying the kittens were cute, she said they looked weird. (These particular kittens have dark areas around their eyes, and white muzzles.) My mom then asked me what the breed was. When I told her they were Ragdoll kittens, she couldn't believe it. According to my mom, the kittens in the other posters are cute, but the ragdoll kittens aren't.

What does she know anyway? I think the kittens are cute, and it's her loss for not seeing that. The poster will remain in the hall. I will be giving the magazine to my mom after I finish reading it. I hope she likes the article.
