How did it all start?

When did people first get the idea in their heads of doing online diaries? Took me awhile to realize that the term "blog" and "online diary" meant the same thing. There are all sorts of online diaries to read, too. Funny diaries, depressing diaries, poetry diaries, wacky diaries....everybody has their own tastes. If someone were to ask me why I keep this diary (though I don't really treat it as such!), I wouldn't be able to come up with an answer. Some days I'll feel like writing something online, other days I won't be up to it, but I don't mind reading other diaries. I've made friends at D-land, and have communicated with lots of people. If my second best friend (
suzysecret) hadn't told me 'bout this place, I don't think I would be here. If I had never learned about the Fantastic Four (and become a fan of the team), I also wouldn't have found D-land. (We wouldn't have had our beginning chat in CBR, so then she wouldn't have told me about this place.) Funny how one thing in our lives can lead to so many other things, huh? I've found my favorite diaries via my reviewing at
diary-viewer, random searching through the member lists, seeing who the members of some of my rings are, checking out the fave. lists of other people, looking at any notes that seem interesting....my tastes have changed over time. I'll like a diary for awhile, then later lose interest. Some diaries have been "permanent fixtures" on my fave. list. Who will stay? Who will go? Who will I add on? Who will like my diary, and add it to their fave. lists? (Not everyone who reads this have me listed as a favorite, but I don't mind.) I have complained 'bout people dropping me, but I shouldn't. I'll type in more entries no matter how many fans I get. Not that I don't like getting new ones. That's always nice.
A diary (typical one) is supposed to hold secrets in it, stuff one wouldn't want to tell anybody else, but have to release some how. Why then would anyone want to share secrets to the online world, where anybody could read them? (Assuming an online diary isn't locked.) Why do you have a D-land diary? Why do I have one? Not easy questions to answer, I don't think.
Thanks andrew for creating this community! I like learning 'bout the lives of other people (No, I'm not a stalker!), and sometimes I prefer typing out my thoughts instead of using pen and paper. I hope to be a D-lander for a long time. I love getting notes and guestbook signings (when they're nice). I may not have the "typical" type of diary here (and I don't have one in real life either; I keep an offline journal, but tend to use it mainly to transcribe e-mail messages into), but I have fun. Isn't that what counts in the end?
